Our Goal for 2012
We say YES to setting goals
and having the courage to see them through.
|
We are very proud of our commitment and loyalty to our school and our learning community of students, teachers, staff, Whanau including our wider community. Critical to the success of our school is Whanau and community involvement.
|
Our uniqueness and cultural diversity is consistently accentuated and celebrated and we share these along with our expectations, which include the National Standards, for all to be given every opportunity to succeed. At Greerton Village School people come first and we never give up on anyone!
We are talented quality educators who accept professional responsibility to provide the very best we can to ensure the ongoing learning and well being of all our students.
We love and value children, love and enjoy teaching, make crucial learning decisions and are all committed to working together to enhance and strengthen the Hauora/Wellbeing of all.
At GVS we ‘feed’ and nourish the brain, the body and the spirit through:
|
|
- research based sound learning and teaching practice to raise student outcomes and lift academic achievement levels particularly in Literacy and Numeracy
- the development and fostering of Inquiry Learning, with ICT, to strengthen student involvement in and ownership of their learning, enhance their ‘voice’ and develop their competence and confidence in the use of thinking skills, strategies and problem solving
- the development of the key competencies from the NZ Curriculum (NZC)
- following Cornerstone Values and Restorative Justice practice
- the promotion of our GVS kids to recognize student passion and talent while providing opportunities for further development
- our constructive and positive relationships both within and outside our school based on mutual Aroha, respect, care and responsibility
- growing student leadership with increasing responsibility for school programmes, activities, functions etc.
- focus on personal health and physical activity
- developing within all the courage and commitment essential to building learning power, making the most of every opportunity, to be able to face challenge and succeed.
|
 |
Our GVS Kids are our Learner Models who represent each of the curriculum ‘smarts’ - literacy, mathematics, art, music, PE/Sports, ICT, Science and Social Sciences.
Our multicultural ‘kids’, representing our school population, are perched on jigsaw pieces - they can stand tall and confident alone and yet can fit together supporting, growing and learning as Whanau and a team to become a good citizen.
|
GVS kids also incorporate and model our Cornerstone Values and the Key Competencies of the NZ Curriculum: we are thinkers, problem solvers, we manage ourselves, relate to others, participate with others and contribute and are learning using language, symbols and texts.
|
| We are a YES school and we are all part of a COURAGEOUS TEAM that abides by professional and ethical standards and our Code of Conduct. We support the success of others and team decisions. |
|
A positive, unified approach between staff, students, parents/caregivers and the school community develops a school climate where students experience success in a safe, secure and supportive environment that fosters self-esteem and respects the dignity of each and every individual of the school community.
Welcome to Greerton Village School where education, teaching and learning is challenging, exciting and fun let’s enjoy it together!
