Rockshop Bandquest is Aoteaora’s live music event for Primary and Intermediate aged school students. In its thirteenth year, the programme annually hosts hundreds of young bands in venues throughout the country.
Presented by the Wright Family Foundation, and powered by NZ Rockshop, the programme is run by RQP (Rockquest Promotions) – the team behind Smokefreerockquest, Smokefree Tangata Beats, and Showquest performing arts competitions.
After noticing during the Smokefreerockquest & Smokefree Tangata Beats event seasons that there was a demand for a live music programme focused on younger students – the RQP team collaborated with their longtime partners at NZ Rockshop to launch Rockshop Bandquest in 2011.
The kaupapa is to encourage Primary and Intermediate aged musicians onto the stage; learning through experience and developing their performance skills alongside their teamwork, communication, goal-setting and leadership skills.
Entrants get to perform in a supportive and encouraging competition format, with a focus on education, inspiration, and entertainment.

What an amazing night and incredibly talented kids we have, at Bandquest 2023, we competed against Intermediate Schools in the BOP at Baycourt Community and Art Theatre on Monday 14th, August and we won best vocals and second over all!

Another amazing night at Bandquest 2021 at Baycourt Community and Art Theatre on Monday 16th, August with GreVouS competing against 12 other Intermediate aged Bands and coming in at 2nd Place.
These incredibly talented kids from our Kura silenced the theatre with this incredible performance… the only primary school in the competition and they blew everyone away with their rawness and talent. Beyond proud.
A brilliant night at Bandquest 2020 with GreVouS competing against 13 Intermediate School Bands & 1 other Primary School Band.
GreVouS were amazing, sounded amazing and looked amazing, taking out Second Place in the competition and Suliasi taking out Best Guitarist. Super proud Performing Arts Team!

On Thursday 15th August our Senior School Band GreVouS went to the National Competition “BandQuest 2019” at Bay Park to do battle with many BOP School Bands. Their performance was amazing! we were all so very proud of them
It was an amazing night for the GreVous band last at BandQuest with “placing third out of 14 bands” ( mostly from intermediate ). A massive well done to them, they all sung, played, smiled. danced their little hearts out…..and rocked the stage.
